With WordPress 4.0 being recently released, we would emphasise the importance of waiting to update your installation. Whilst the upgrade is quite a significant one, it may well break your whole website!
Here is a link to the update information if you want an overview of the benefits.
We are not saying it WILL, but it might. Does anyone want to risk that just yet. The main factors to take into consideration before you update are as follows:
- Are you a developer with a test environment? If so, this is the perfect opportunity to test the new version of WordPress.
- Have you had confirmation from whoever built your website that your installation is safe to update? If not, await their confirmation (we will be informing all clients of this shortly)
- When your site’s theme and framework have been updated so cope with WordPress 4.0, then you will be safe to update. Until this time, don’t try.
- If you want to ignore all of the above and get the update, BACKUP YOUR WEBSITE first using a backup plugin such as UpdraftPlus so you have a way of restoring your old website, should the worst happen.
